2 Corinthian 10:5

Updated: Dec 24, 2018

"... and we take every thought captive to obey Christ."

1. Our natural thinking is corrupt. Our thoughts are often godless and foul. "Take captive" is an intentional action.

2. It's not just about individual thoughts, but about taking captive every way of thinking that is contrary to God and godliness.

3. How much grief could we save ourselves by taking every thought and every habitual way of thinking captive to obey Christ?

  • We would not dwell on anger

  • We would not doubt

  • We would not give in to sexual temptation

  • We would not gossip and slander

  • We would not falsely assume or accuse

  • We would communicate better

  • Public discourse would not be so vitriolic

  • We would love more and care more

  • We would have less envy, jealousy, and wrong judgment of others

  • We would turn to God first rather than working in our own strength

  • The list is as endless as man's sinfulness!

Think about it...

How would you say what you think about this Scripture selection in your own words as if you were telling a friend? Thinking about it and even saying it out loud will help you remember it and be more comfortable talking about it in a normal conversational way with people in your sphere of influence.

Honestly consider how you live, think, and talk around your family, coworkers, neighbors, and friends. What is God saying to you through this Scripture selection?
